LinkedIn as a hotspot for AI slop

An analysis by AI detection provider Pangram shows the extent to which generative AI is shaping professional networks. Of more than one million social media posts examined, 41% of longer LinkedIn posts were classified as entirely AI-generated. Although only around a third of the posts analysed came from LinkedIn, the platform accounted for almost two thirds of all AI-generated texts detected.

The online publication Heise offers two explanations for the phenomenon. First, LinkedIn is reinforcing the trend by integrating AI writing tools directly into the platform. As a result, the barrier to producing AI-generated content is relatively low compared with platforms such as Reddit, Substack or X. Second, generative AI makes professional self-presentation and personal branding on LinkedIn much easier. As a research study published in April this year found, the number of LinkedIn posts rose sharply following the launch of ChatGPT. According to the authors, AI appears to be particularly well suited to professional networking platforms because it can quickly produce well-structured, polished texts tailored to familiar formulas for success.
